Perspectiva Insectorum

A textile collection driven by insect architecture. Inspired by insects' intelligence the focus remains on their creations and processes, physicalising them through felting.

The collection explores needle punch felting as a means of up-cycling discarded fabrics. Altering their quality and purpose through the application of flax and wool fibers.

TUNNELS AND BURROWS focuses on creating 3D shape and form, inspired by insects tunnels and burrows.

GRIDS AND COLONIES is focused on creating prints and patterns through needle punch felting, inspired by the millions of tiny workers that make up a functional colony.

MOSSY DENIM is inspired by the moss that grows on insects’ mounds and the symbiotic relationship that forms between them. Denim, one of the most common fabrics found in the fashion industry, was selected as the base fabric for this collection, demonstrating the applicability of needle punch felting.

LAYER BY LAYER is a felted interpretation of the process in which insects build their nests, layer by layer. Flax, a more sustainable alternative to wool, has been applied layer after layer exploring how the thickness and drape of fabrics can be altered.
